Selo Untsukul'
Description
The ancient Avar village of Untsukul was famous for its gunsmiths. They made cold weapon with a silver notch. Some of the surviving samples occupy a worthy place in the expositions of Moscow and St. Petersburg museums. In parallel, the art of bone and wood carving developed. The blanks of the products are made from hard wood of dogwood, apricot or walnut. Inlays in the form of beautiful traditional geometric and floral ornaments are made with copper, cupronickel, silver, steel, aluminum, and brass.
