Tlyaratinskiy zakaznik

Description

The Tlyaratinsky reserve is located on the slopes of the Main Caucasian and Bokovoy ridges, in the valley of the Dzhurmut River. Located in the border region, from the south it merges with the Georgian and Azerbaijani reserves. This area came to the attention of environmental organizations due to its unique fauna, abundant with rare species of animals, many of which are listed in the Red Book. After the organization of a protected natural zone in these places, the reserve became part of the Dagestansky reserve. Numerous mountain rivers, rapidly carrying their waters down the slopes, deserve special attention of tourists. And in the south-west of the reserve, along the border with Georgia, there is a chain of emerald-colored alpine lakes. This place bears the poetic name "Plateau of sleeping lakes". Scientists have recorded more than 150 species of animals, among which there are really rare ones such as the Persian leopard and the bezoar goat. Some of them live in these places permanently, others periodically wander from neighboring regions. In addition, peregrine falcons, golden eagles, griffon vultures and other rare birds of prey nest in the wide expanses of the reserve.
